The Reward Of The Wicked

Proverbs 10:7 The memory of the righteous is blessed, but the name of the wicked will rot.

1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Gehazi was the servant of the prophet Elisha. Elisha had been the servant of the prophet Elijah. Elisha had asked for a double portion of Elijah’s spirit and God granted him his request.

This can be fatal - don’t miss God’s blessings for making the wrong choices.

What a potential Gehazi had as the servant of Elisha. He witnessed so many miracles that the Lord worked through Elisha, but instead, he was carnal minded and messed up badly. He lied twice to the prophet Elisha in order to hide his greed for money. He wanted to get paid for a miracle that God had freely granted to Naaman for His Glory alone. (Scripture reference 2 Kings 5:20-27 )

As a result, the leprosy of Naaman plagued Gehazi from that time on and reached to all of his descendants. What a tragedy and curse. Leprosy is a type of sin. Gehazi had the potential to become an anointed prophet of God himself and the successor of Elisha, but his focus was not on spiritual, but on earthly things.

Gehazi is in the row of men like Kain, Esau, Nadab and Abihu, Zedekiah, King Saul, Jeroboam, King Agrippa, Judas Iscariot, Demas and many more – men that could have been blessed, if they had put God first. They exemplified unbelief instead of faith, disobedience instead of obedience, pride instead of humility, self-will instead of submission, carnality instead of spirituality or indifference instead of passion.

Let us all have the right attitude towards the things of God and make the right choices. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

God bless you abundantly. ra
