The Holy Ghost - Our Witness

Many times we read Acts 1:8 and we only look at the first portion of the scripture. Yes Jesus made is very clear that we would receive power after receiving the Holy Ghost. "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you ... "

However if we are not careful we can miss one of the most important aspects of this verse. Luke uses the word dunomis as the Greek word to describe the word power, which literally means, miraculous power or might.

We look at this and realize that there is something supernatural about what Jesus is talking about. However we cannot miss the deeper subject of what Jesus was trying to communicate. In the second part of Acts 1:8 we find why the power was going to be so important to our Christian walk. "and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermostt part of the earth." The power that we receive is not only power to overcome, but it is the very power that enables us to be a witness for Jesus Christ.

Luke 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things.

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations ...

This was the whole explanation of what Jesus was saying. Although the Holy Ghost is a benefit to our lives, and it causes the New Birth to be activated in our life, it also is for the benefit of the WHOLE WORLD.

When we receive the Holy Ghost, we receive a power that causes us to be a true witness of who Jesus Christ is. We are witnesses of His Love. We are witnesses of His Grace. We are witnesses of His resurrection power that works in our lives. When we let the Holy Ghost be a true witness of who Jesus Christ is, we will see lives completely changed. If we are going to allow the Holy Ghost to be a witness, than we cannot miss the daily moments that we are given to minister to the lives of people around us. If we allow ourselves to be aware we will walk right into the life of someone who is looking for something to transform their lives. Jesus told us to go into the entire world. We are not to go alone, rather we are to take His Spirit that He has given to us to truly witness to those in the world around us. Rev. Nathan Hulsman
