Stay focused on Jesus

Now a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures, came to Ephesus. This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things of the Lord, though he knew only the baptism of John. So he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Aquila and Priscilla heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately. And when he desired to cross to Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him; and when he arrived, he greatly helped those who had believed through grace; for he vigorously refuted the Jews publicly, showing from the Scriptures that Jesus is the Christ. Acts 18; 24-28

I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. 1 Corinthians 3:6

ApollosApollos like Paul was a highly educated believer, who was very knowledgable, as he is described in the Bible that he was mighty in the Scriptures, but still had not the full revelation from the Word of God. He used what he had and preached boldly and fervently in the synagoge. Aquila and Priscilla, friends of Paul and prominent saints in the 1st century church heard him preaching and took him aside to fill the gap. Obviously Apollos had a teachable and humble spirit and willingly received more truth as he was later mightely used in the church of Corinth and in other places.

Some of the disciples that Apollos made in Ephesus, before he himself received the Apostolic truth, were baptized in Jesus name by the Apostle Paul and he prayed for them to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. (see Acts 19) We can lead people only as far as we are in Christ.

However, whereever we are in our Christian journey, if we have a teachable spirit and allow the Scriptures to speak to us instead of tradition and our own understanding, we save ourselves and others. After all, the Word of God is above everything. For you [referring to God] have magnified your Word above all your name. Psalm 138:2.

In John 14:23 we read: Jesus answered and said to him, If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him, and in John 14:12-14 Jesus makes this promise: Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

And a side note: Paul stated that we should follow him, as he follows Christ. (see Philippians 3:17; 1. Corinthians 4:16; 1 Cor. 11:1 etc.) Be careful not to follow anything that is not Christlike. Sound doctrine is essential, but not enough. God also expects the fruit of the spirit in our lives as we grow in Him: Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23)

God will always build on truth. Let's have an open heart and receive and live according to the truth and expect a great endtime revival in these last days, where signs will follow those who believe. ra
